Gold medals and promotions!
Masters World Championships
On August 24th, 2017, Northern Virginia jiu jitsu showed the world its dominance when one of our own traveled to Las Vegas to compete in the IBJJF Masters World Championships. Tim Dawson, a brown belt instructor and student at TheRockBJJ, humbly destroyed every opponent who dared to step on the mat with him and, for the second year in a row, won the gold medal.
Tim Dawson continues to show how determination, patience, and consistency can enable anyone to reach the top of the podium. Even though he competed up a weight class, not a single point was scored against him. This is an astounding accomplishment showcasing his commitment, technique, and athleticism. Of course, none of this came as any surprise to his teammates and our academy students.
Tim also is an outstanding instructor at our academy. He teaches our wrestling classes and rolls with students of all levels, pushing them to reach their personal best. We’re happy and proud to have Tim with us a theRockBJJ!
Our newest Brown Belt: Megan Lomonof
On July 31st, 2017, we added another female brown belt to our team! Big congratulations to Megan Lomonof for her well-earned promotion. Megan is part of the essential core of our academy. She has crushed it on the competition scene at all levels from local NAGA tournaments all the way up to the IBJJF and Abu Dhabi World Professional. Megan is a leader and valued mentor not only for our female teammates, but for all of our students as well. She is also an inspiration to our other brown belts like Thomas Cooper.
When she’s not on the mats, Megan plays flute and piccolo professionally. She is an avid online gamer and never hesitates to lend a helping hand to her friends an teammates. It is an honor to have such a talented and well-rounded individual on our team. We can’t wait to see what she accomplishes as a brown belt!
We also love her dog, Penny, who rocks Megan’s BJJ competition medals and sometimes loves our flip flops when she visits us at the gym!
