Thanks John ”The Rev” Jensen For The Leglock Seminar
On April 23rd, we were lucky enough to be able to host the Californian leg locking aficionado himself, John Jensen, for a seminar. John Jensen is the owner of Ojai Valley MMA in Oak View, CA who has been passionate about training, teaching and competing in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts since 1997.
His experience in this field is rare to come across, so we were delighted to have him show us his take on leg locks – everything from IBJJF competition legal footlocks to the more fun, illegal leg locks and catch wrestling shenanigans.
Our students were equally as excited as our staff. Every color of belt – from white to black – was in attendance.
Here at Dave Jacobs BJJ, we strive for professionalism, as well as a positive, safe, and encouraging atmosphere. Teaching leg locks safely and competently is sometimes overlooked in BJJ, and therefore, it is extremely important that students are taught by an experienced and knowledgeable instructor. With John’s record of experience, we knew our ankles and knees were in good hands.
Whilst leg locks aren’t known by a mass majority of jiujitsu practitioners, a few higher belt students and all of our instructors are well versed in the art of them. Some of our most enthusiastic upper belt leg lockers couldn’t help but joke around, posing as if they were brutally attempting to rip their friends apart.
A big thank you to John “The Rev” Jensen for coming by and letting us in on the leg lock, kneebar, heel hook, toehold and ankle lock strategies he has picked up over the years. It was an amazing experience and we hope to see him again soon!
